EMT Trauma and Medical Emergencies is one of two lecture courses designed to provide the student with the knowledge of an entry-level Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). This course includes the following topics: obstetrics and gynecology, neonatal care, pediatric emergencies, geriatric emergencies, environmental emergencies, patients with special challenges, trauma and shock. Trauma and shock will include the following topics: bleeding, soft tissue injuries, head and spine injuries, face and neck injuries, chest injuries, abdominal and genitourinary injuries and orthopedic injuries. Semester Availability (Subject to Change): FALL and SPRING PREREQUISITE: Admission into the EMT program. COREQUISITES: EMSB 1601, EMSB 1101, EMSB 1102, EMSB 1111, and EMSB 1112 Contact hours 90 lecture hours per semester CAREER COURSE: Designated primarily for vocational/career programs. This course may be accepted as transfer credit by some colleges and universities, but that decision is made by the receiving institution. This course is collegiate level work, but has been developed with a purpose other than being a university parallel course.
