Learning Objectives: COURSE SYLLABUSMUS-182-001 - Percussion InstructionInstructor – Adam MamulaContact info – adam.mamula@volstate.edu or (615) 485-7699 Course DescriptionThis class focuses on individual percussion instruction (private lessons) for non-percussion majors.General Education Goals and Outcomes Individually tailored student goals and outcomes will be determined by the instructor based on the students’ past experience and individual needs. The goals are based on student input, instructor pre-assessment of students’ base aptitude level, and realistic expectations at the end of the semester as defined by the instructor. The ultimate outcome is to prepare the student to perform music in practical situations as a means of earning income.Percussion instruction includes, but is not limited to: snare drum, drum set, mallet percussion, and hand drumming.Course AssessmentParticipation is required to earn a passing grade for this course. Therefore, the student should make every effort to attend all scheduled lessons. The student will give the instructor at least 24 hours of notice when possible if they cannot attend a lesson. Every effort should made to make up missed lessons.The student will be assigned weekly lesson goals. The student in expected to practice daily in order to be prepared for his or her lesson and achieve the specified lesson goals for the week.Refer to college policies regarding participation and attendance as it relates to grading. GradesA – Student is prepared for 85-100% of the lessons (shows up on time, has materials in order, ready to play).B - Student is prepared for 70-85% of the lessons (shows up on time, has materials in order, ready to play).C - Student is prepared for 50-70% of the lessons (shows up on time, has materials in order, ready to play).D - Student is prepared for 0-50% of the lessons (shows up on time, has materials in order, ready to play).F – Student is chronically late or misses lessons. Student does not practice. Student does not have materials prepared.
